The Federal Reserve Bank(FRB) has 12 districts in the US and each district has assigned number.
When FRB prints currencies, they put the district number(and the logo called District Seal)on the bills.
Please check sample image for the district number and logo location and map for how FRB divided the distrct.
A Distrct set is the collection of all 12 banknotes, one from each district.
