The
Susan Brownell Anthony(1820-1906) dollar coin introduced as an alternative to the
one dollar banknote in 1979, represents the first time that a
woman has been portrayed on a circulating US coin. The reverse
design is the same as that used on the Eisenhower dollar.
Anthony dollar is one of the shortest coin series, and easy to complete the collection.

FYI: The Wide Rim variety coin is found only form the Philadelphia mintmarked 1979 Anthony dollars.(Scarce but not rare).
In 1979, the Mint changed the "S" mintmark for proof coin from "filled-S"(old) to "clear-S"(new), in the middle of the production. Most of the 1979 proof Anthony dollars have filled S but less than 10% of the coins which produced in late 1979 have clear S.(Scarce but not rare) |

FYI: All the proof coins issued after 1979 have clear S mintmark. In 1981, however, few of the proof coins have different type of S mintmark. It is clear S mintmark of course, but the top of the letter is flat not round. Please see the two graphics on right. The flat top S mintmarked (type-2) coin is rare, less than 1% of the 1981 proof coins have this mintmark. |
