Cents: Memorial Reverse (1959 to date) |

Lincoln
cent was first issued in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary
of the birth of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. His portrait
is on the obverse and sheaves of wheat were on the reverse. During
the 150th anniversary celebration in 1959, the reverse design
changed to the Lincoln Memorial.
In
2009, US Mint issued 4 special Lincoln cents to celebrate the
200th anniversary. In 2010, instead of return back to the Lincoln
Memorial reverse, US Mint issued new Union Shield design for the
reverse.
